The symbol of intelligence, fascinating powerful bird - the Eurasian Eagle Owl is honoured on a valuable silver coin issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
The obverse of the coin features the relief of the State coat of arms of the Republic of Belarus surrounded by geometric ornament. Along the rim of the coin there are the year of issue and inscriptions denoting the name of issuing country, face value etc.
The reverse design is decorated by the relief of two Eagle Owls perching on the branch and with the eyes of one bird inlaid with Swarovski crystals. The Latin and Belarusian names of the bird are also indicated on the reverse. As most owl species Eurasian Eagle Owl is mostly nocturnal in activity. It starts hunting at twilight, around midnight the bird takes a break and then continues its prey chasing until dawn.
