Bali mobilizes aid, personnel for earthquake-hit East Nusa Tenggara​

Denpasar (ANTARA) - The Bali provincial government, through its Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), has allocated Rp150 million (more than US$8,300) in initial funding to procure and deliver relief supplies to residents affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Bali BPBD Executive Chief I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya confirmed that his team was currently in Ende District, NTT, procuring relief supplies from local businesses.

“The procurement process is still underway,” he said in a message received in Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster on Monday (Aug. 17) instructed the BPBD chief to deploy five personnel to areas affected by Saturday’s magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Flores Island.

The advance team has arrived in Flores, delivering initial assistance while assessing the actual needs of local communities.

On Tuesday, BPBD personnel continued procuring and consolidating essential supplies and equipment, including ready-to-eat meals, cooking oil, bottled water, diapers, hygiene kits, mattresses, tarpaulins, and blankets for distribution through a command post.

“The Bali BPBD team arrived in Maumere yesterday and is now in Ende to procure and distribute relief supplies,” Yadnya said.

He added that the Bali government had also deployed medical personnel to support healthcare services, with a medical team already joining relief operations in Sikka District.

Yadnya further said the provincial government planned to deploy additional emergency medical teams to meet the healthcare needs of earthquake victims in Nagekeo District, where the epicenter was located.

He noted that disaster response personnel from Bali had also been involved in search-and-rescue operations and the distribution of relief supplies to evacuation centers across seven districts on Flores Island.

Yadnya emphasized that all disaster victims should receive equal assistance and treatment regardless of their origin.

“We are doing our best to aid all affected people,” he affirmed.
