Aceh deputy governor seeks energy ties with Denmark

Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah met with the Danish ambassador to Indonesia, Sten Frimodt Nielsen, in Jakarta to explore potential cooperation in the energy sector and regional development, officials said.

“We’re pleased to present Aceh’s potential and explore future partnerships,” he said in a statement released in Banda Aceh on Monday following the meeting with Ambassador Nielsen.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in renewable energy, investment, and natural resource development between Denmark and Indonesia’s westernmost province.

Fadhlullah highlighted Aceh’s abundant natural resources, including oil, gas, copper, gold, and iron ore.

He also promoted the region’s globally recognized agricultural products such as Gayo arabica coffee, robusta beans, and patchouli.

“Aceh is home to exceptional natural attractions like Mount Leuser National Park, one of the world’s green lungs,” he said.

“Sabang, located at Indonesia’s zero-kilometer point, lies along the busy Malacca Strait, crossed by around 6,000 ships daily,” he added.

Fadhlullah also thanked European nations, including Denmark, for their humanitarian support during Aceh’s conflict period and after the 2004 tsunami.

Ambassador Nielsen expressed interest in visiting Aceh and said Denmark would send experts, including some working with Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, to assess the province’s potential.

The assessment is expected to serve as a foundation for future cooperation between Aceh and Denmark across multiple sectors.
