DINAR RV - Demarcation !!!!
A brief history of the demarcation of the border between Iraq and Kuwait
Posted: July 22, 2011 by THE CURRENCY NEWSHOUND - Just Hopin in Iraqi Dinar/Politics
All begins with UN Resolution 833
...
UNIKOM was established shortly after the first Gulf War to help normalize the conditions between Iraq and Kuwait...
A 2006 Iraq/Kuwait UNSC Report discussed the demarcation issue…
With respect to the border issue,
after the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) departed from the Demilitarised Zone in March 2003, the UN was unable to inspect the boundary between the countries...
In late 2010, it was reported a 500 meter buffer zone was created, or was it?.
Initial reports suggested
an agreement took place between Iraq and Kuwait established a buffer zone of 500 meters wide on both sides of the border; the agreement also included to relocate displaced villagers which were housed along the zoned area, and a tentative joint agreement in the investment of shared oil fields. Iraq at this time stated they regretted not participating in the 1993 demarcation talks.
The buffer zone was the initial steps toward demarcation.
However in
December 2010 Iraqi spokesman Ali Daubagh denied any such agreement.
On March 2011, Kuwait announced it would assist Iraq by building villages for displaced farmers located along the shared border.

On July 16, 2011 the Kuwait’ Deputy PM and Foreign Minister said the following…
On the Iraq-Kuwait Boundary Maintenance Project (IKBMP) the UN has made relevant preparations and arrangements,
but actual implementation has not yet been launched on the ground due to Iraq’s failure to observe the recommendations of a technical team that visited the border area in February 2006 and asked Iraq to remove border transgressions, as well as Iraq’s non-response to UN calls for contributing its share of the additional funding – USD 600,000 – required to complete the project.
...
Finally, On July 19th 2011 during the UNAMI briefing to the UNSC Ed Melkert said the following…
Notwithstanding those bilateral efforts, which I hope will be successful, Iraq, as the SecretaryGeneral’s report indicates, must demonstrate to the Council tangible and expeditious progress in implementing its outstanding Chapter VII obligations pertaining to Kuwait. These include missing Kuwaiti persons and property, as well as the Iraq-Kuwait boundary maintenance project and citizens’ relocation.
The Secretary-General has also consistently reminded the Iraqi Prime Minister that a letter from him reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to its land and maritime boundaries with Kuwait under resolution 833 (1993) is an essential confidence-building measure. In this context, the Secretary-General’s High-level Coordinator and I both remain committed to assisting Iraq and Kuwait in bringing closure to these longstanding Security Council mandates.
