What is the impact of brain drain to Malay-sia?
1. Mismatched out-flow and inflow of human capital in terms of quantity and quality will erode skills base (experienced talent not contributing to nation building)
The World Bank estimates Malaysia‘s overall immigrant population at 2.4 mil (including 1.4 mil Indonesian-born immi-grants). Thus, there is a mismatch between the out-flow of skilled and unskilled Malaysians (of 1 mil) and the inflow of low-skilled foreign labor (of 2.4 mil) .
Malaysia akan jadi lebih "unskill/bod.." by national level
2. Low skills base will impact productivity growth and capacity to innovate
While the Government has and is still investing sub-stantially into education thus creating a broader base, there are valid concerns that our universities are not churning out the right numbers to meet in-dustrial needs, eg. The quantity and quality of re-placement human capital is less than the outflow.
Quality of skill-based workers remain top concerns among industry players, especially manufacturing companies
sebab tu investor taknak masuk (selain sebab political unstability)
A country which aspires to become a high income nation requires quality human capital talent as foundation stones to drive skill-intensive and inno-vation-led growth.
For Iskandar Malaysia, due to our proximity to Singapore, there is a greater urgency to stem the Brain Drain in order to Develop, Attract and Re-tain Talent (the DARE initiatives).
We will look into our Human Capital Blueprint initiatives and the various incentives (both under IRDA and Talentcorp) to attract talents (Malaysians and foreigners) in our next issue of IM BizWatch.
