President reaffirms Indonesia's non-aligned foreign policy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed that Indonesia will continue to uphold its long-standing free and active foreign policy by maintaining a non-aligned position amid rising global geopolitical tensions.

Speaking at a meeting with business leaders from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, Prabowo said Indonesia had inherited its foreign policy principles from the nation's founding fathers, emphasizing that the country does not align itself with any military bloc or alliance.

According to the president, the principle has remained a cornerstone of Indonesia's diplomacy to this day.

"We are grateful that our country inherited a legacy from our founding fathers. That legacy is a non-aligned foreign policy. We do not want to join any military bloc or alliance," Prabowo said.

The head of state said that since the beginning of his administration, he has prioritized a policy of fostering good relations with all countries.

Prabowo acknowledged that several border disputes among Southeast Asian countries are legacies of the colonial era.

However, he stressed that all such issues must be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means.

While recognizing that resolving disputes is not always easy because each party has its own interests, Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia must exercise wisdom and restraint, and should not be easily provoked.

"I realize that Indonesia is the largest country in the region. Therefore, we must be wiser, more patient, and not allow ourselves to be provoked. That is the legacy we inherited, non-alignment," he said.

Prabowo also reaffirmed Indonesia's neutral stance in maintaining relations with major powers.

He said that remaining neutral while fostering good relations with all countries is part of Indonesia's strategy to preserve regional stability and support global peace amid ongoing conflicts and geopolitical uncertainty.
