Pertamina ship clearance in Hormuz ongoing after first vessel exit

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's state-owned oil company Pertamina confirmed clearance phase is ongoing for Pertamina Pride very large crude carrier (VLCC) before it can exit Hormuz Strait after its sister vessel, Gamsunoro, left the strait last month.

"The clearance process is ongoing for the Pertamina Pride," Pertamina's VP of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated here on Thursday.

Baron said as the situation remains fragile despite the ceasefire agreement between the conflicting parties, the ship may need to wait longer before it can leave the strait freely if tensions arise.

The crude oil carried by the Pertamina Pride is destined for oil refinery in Cilacap, Central Java, where the vessel will sail after exiting the strait.

Confirming Gamsunoro's exit from the Hormuz Strait, Baron stated it was the outcome from intensive coordination between Pertamina and other parties, including the Indonesia's Foreign Ministry.

PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) earlier confirmed the Gamsunoro VLCC had departed from the Persian Gulf on June 24 at 1:06 a.m. Dubai time.

The ship arrived at the mouth of Hormuz Strait at 1:00 p.m. local time and exited some four hours later, reaching the safe point to continue its journey to Indonesia.

Throughout the journey, the ship was monitored round-the-clock by PIS, with the ship's crew intensively coordinating with officers at the company's crisis center on land to ensure their safety.

The company described the Gamsunoro's exit from the Hormuz Strait as their success in maintaining operations amidst geopolitical tension at the most strategic energy choke point.
