Pertamina Geothermal ready to power Indonesia's green data centers

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has announced its readiness to accelerate geothermal energy utilization to power the development of green data centers across Indonesia.

Speaking at a media briefing in Jakarta on Tuesday, PGE President Director Ahmad Yani emphasized that while the state-backed geothermal producer is not entering data center management directly, it is actively preparing its clean energy capacity to support the digital sector’s massive electricity demand.

"This is one of our efforts to accelerate geothermal potential. We are not jumping into the data center business directly, but supporting it from the energy side," Ahmad stated.

He emphasized that geothermal-based digital infrastructure serves as a strategic initiative to deliver reliable, low-emission power while supporting Indonesia's transition toward a low-carbon digital economy.

According to PGE's internal projections, data center growth is expected to drive nearly 26 percent of industrial electricity demand expansion in the country. National data center capacity is forecasted to jump from 520 megawatts (MW) in 2025 to 1.8 gigawatts (GW) by 2030.

Ahmad highlighted that geothermal energy provides continuous, 24/7 baseload power, making it uniquely suitable for hyperscale data centers requiring uninterrupted supply without high carbon emissions.

"Geothermal energy serves as a baseload of green energy, making it exceptionally compatible with future data center operations, which focus on green energy," he noted.

To capitalize on the country's projected digital expansion, PGE is inviting global tech giants, regional hyperscalers, and local data center operators to form strategic partnerships and establish an integrated green data center ecosystem.

"All data center companies interested in green energy will find a ready partner in us. We are open to collaboration with all industry players to build a comprehensive ecosystem," Ahmad added, assuring prospective partners that PGE can consistently deliver reliable green baseload power.
