Indonesia's President Prabowo to visit Pakistan, says embassy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit Islamabad on December 8–9 at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The trip will be Prabowo's first to Pakistan since taking office in October 2024, the Pakistani Embassy in Jakarta said in a press release on Monday. His predecessor, Joko Widodo, visited the country in 2018.

"This upcoming visit carries added significance as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia," the embassy said.

Prabowo is also expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari and senior military leaders during the visit.

Both sides will discuss efforts to strengthen Indonesia–Pakistan relations and explore cooperation in trade, investment, defense, health, IT, climate, education, and culture.

Several memorandums of understanding are expected to be signed during the visit, according to the embassy.

Information circulating among the press indicated that Prabowo departed for Pakistan directly from Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Aceh on Monday evening, aboard the Garuda Indonesia-1 jet with Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Prabowo was in Aceh to inspect flood- and landslide-hit areas and lead a coordination meeting on disaster response on Sunday.

The Presidential Palace had not confirmed the president's departure to Pakistan as of publication time.
