Indonesia, Morocco strengthen cultural ties through music

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government and the Kingdom of Morocco have strengthened their cultural diplomacy through a musical performance themed “A Musical Bridge Between Morocco and Indonesia” in Jakarta.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday evening (July 28), Indonesian Culture Minister Fadli Zon said the performance reflected the two nations’ long-standing and growing friendship through the power of culture.

“Gatherings like this remind us that art is a universal language that speaks directly to the human heart and unites people across borders and cultures,” Fadli said.

He explained that ties between Indonesia and Morocco stretch back centuries, notably to the 14th century, when Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta visited the Samudera Pasai Kingdom in Aceh.

According to Fadli, the Muslim traveller’s travelogue helped introduce the Indonesian archipelago to both the Islamic world and the wider international community.

He added that diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Morocco, which have spanned 70 years, continue to grow through cooperation in various sectors, including international forums.

Both nations, he continued, consistently uphold the values of moderation, tolerance, intercultural dialogue, and respect for cultural diversity.

“The ties between Indonesia and Morocco are not only built through diplomacy but also through long-standing people-to-people ties, knowledge sharing, shared spiritual values, and cultural traditions passed down from generation to generation,” he remarked.

The minister underscored that culture has served as a bridge that strengthens ties between Indonesia and Morocco, expressing hope that joint musical performances like this will further deepen bilateral relations in the future.

Echoing this sentiment, Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini said the art event is an effort to strengthen cultural cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that Morocco and Indonesia share excellent relations, common values, as well as mutual trust and respect under the visions of King Mohammed VI and President Prabowo Subianto.

The ambassador also reaffirmed the two countries' commitment to working together to strengthen cultural diplomacy, economic diplomacy, and most importantly, people-to-people ties.
