Indonesia coordinates with partners after Israeli GSF interception

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia has coordinated with its diplomatic missions in the Middle East and partner nations whose citizens participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) intercepted by Israel.

He noted that intensive coordination is underway to ensure the safety of Indonesians confirmed to have been detained by Israel following the interception earlier this week.

"We are seeking assistance from our partners—first, from countries whose citizens are facing the same situation, and also from our partners in Jordan and Turkey," he told the press at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He stated that Indonesia remains in close contact with the Jordanian and Turkish foreign ministries to get information on the condition of the Indonesian citizens detained by Israeli forces.

He further explained that since Indonesia does not maintain diplomatic ties with Israel, it requires mediation from partner nations that have direct access.

"So far, the information we have received is still limited due to communication constraints," Sugiono said.

The minister also lauded the spirit of the Indonesian citizens and global volunteers in the GSF, stating that they represent the global community's desire to support Palestinians who are suffering from Israeli oppression.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday confirmed that all 9 Indonesian nationals participating in the GSF humanitarian mission have been detained by Israeli forces.

Among the nine Indonesian nationals are three journalists who were on assignment: Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai from Republika, and Andre Prasetyo Nugroho from Tempo.

Indonesia strongly condemns Israel's action in intercepting the humanitarian aid vessels and detaining the volunteers, including Indonesian citizens.

The situation also underscores the critical need for Israel to ensure the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, in accordance with international humanitarian law.
