Indonesia, China boost security ties amid global tensions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has conveyed its readiness to enhance the strategic partnership between China's Ministry of State Security (MSS) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) in line with President Prabowo Subianto's vision of strengthening national security amidst global geopolitical dynamics.

In a statement on Friday, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya highlighted that enhancing the strategic partnership between MSS and BIN will be a central pillar of future cooperation, in line with President Prabowo’s vision.

"Enhancing the good relations and future cooperation between MSS and BIN is part of President Prabowo's foreign policy, to strengthen Indonesia's national security amidst the geopolitical dynamics of a multipolar order through an active role in various dimensions of international relations," Teddy stated.

During a meeting with Chinese Minister of State Security (MSS) Chen Yi Xin at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday, President Prabowo discussed enhancing cooperation between the two countries in maintaining regional security stability.

China also expressed its intention to strengthen cooperation with friendly countries.

"Minister Chen expressed the hope to work with friendly countries to build cooperation to maintain and enhance security stability in Asia and globally," Teddy remarked.

In response, Prabowo addressed the importance of security stability for Indonesia, which he considered as the main foundation for supporting sustainable economic growth.

Responding to China's expectations, Teddy said President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia's view on the importance of regional stability for Indonesia in supporting sustainable economic growth.

In addition, the head of state welcomed the opportunity to increase cooperation between the two countries, which he expected would provide equal and mutually beneficial benefits, particularly in the security sector.

Since taking office in October 2024, President Prabowo has shown intensive engagement with the Chinese government. Chinese President Xi Jinping was among the first foreign leaders he visited as head of state.

The two leaders first met as fellow presidents at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on November 9 that year, where they celebrated the strategic nature of bilateral ties. They reunited in the Chinese capital in early September 2025 during an event marking the 80th anniversary of China’s victory against Imperial Japanese forces.
