Four Indonesian crew safe after Somalia ship hijacking: MoFA

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said four Indonesian crew members aboard the hijacked MT Honour 25 in Somalia are in good condition as authorities continue handling the case.

"Based on information from the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi, the Indonesian crew members on board are in good condition," Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens Heni Hamidah said in a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

She added that the ministry continues to coordinate with various parties in Somalia regarding the hijacking of the vessel on April 22 in waters near Hafun.

The case is being handled in coordination with local authorities, community leaders, and relevant business actors while prioritizing the safety of the Indonesian crew members.

The ship was crewed by four Indonesians, 10 Pakistanis, and one crew member each from India and Myanmar.

The ministry is also strengthening coordination with relevant domestic stakeholders to prevent similar incidents.

"Strengthening data collection on Indonesian crew members working abroad is important in case incidents occur," Heni said.

The government is also working to strengthen bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation.

Indonesian crew members are encouraged to work through official procedures to reduce risks abroad.

Earlier, on April 26, the victims' families urged the Indonesian government and President Prabowo Subianto to take immediate steps to ensure their safety.
