BGN, AGO team up to strengthen oversight of free meals program

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is working with the Attorney General's Office (AGO) to strengthen oversight of Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, an official said Wednesday.

Ketut Sumedana, BGN's deputy for monitoring and oversight, said findings from an alleged corruption case involving MBG governance would help improve the agency's supervision.

"We will use whatever investigators find to improve BGN and make it better going forward," Ketut said at the AGO's office in Jakarta.

Ketut was introduced Tuesday as BGN's new deputy for monitoring and oversight, one of five new senior officials appointed to improve MBG governance.

He has more than 28 years of experience at the AGO and holds a doctorate in law, qualifying him to oversee field problems, including suspected food poisoning and other irregularities.

The AGO has named seven suspects in the alleged corruption case involving MBG governance, including former BGN chief Dadan Hindayana.

The other suspects are former BGN deputy chiefs Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sonjaya, private-sector figures Asep Yusuf Soemantri and Glory Harimas Sihombing, PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal Commissioner Andri Mulyono, and LMI, secretary to BGN's deputy for promotion and cooperation.
