I'd rather be out of power than work with DAP, says Onn Hafiz
ISKANDAR PUTERI: Johor Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said he would rather be without a position than "sit at the same table" with DAP.
"If we are given the mandate again, we will never be in government with DAP," he said, stressing that his stand had nothing to do with race or emotions.
"I would rather not hold any position than sit at the same table with them," he said during the launch of the Johor BN election machinery at EduCity Stadium here.
The Johor caretaker menteri besar dismissed claims circulating on social media that BN and DAP would eventually work together, as well as allegations that the state administration was unstable.
"Johoreans are mature. They know how to distinguish between slander and facts," he said.
Onn Hafiz also defended the decision to call the state election earlier than scheduled, saying next year's packed social and economic calendar could complicate the electoral process.
"Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri and the monsoon season will make the early part of next year extremely challenging for an election.
"We are also facing global geopolitical uncertainties. We need stability sooner rather than later," he said.
He also urged the BN machinery to step up grassroots engagement efforts, particularly among younger voters, and to better communicate BN's track record and policies to the public.
The Johor BN election machinery launch was officiated by BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and attended by senior party leaders.
