Default Thailand’s Political Clarity Stained by General Election Outcome

Author: Tan Wei Yine

Thailand held its first general election in accordance to the new 2017 constitution drafted under the ruling military junta on last Sunday, 24 March 2019 after the 2014 Thai coup. The latest available results have confused the public and injected a dose of uncertainty on Thailand’s political front. In this article, we help investors to understand the current political landscape along with our view on the recent election outcome.

The general election on Sunday is to elect 500-seat lower house members (House of Representatives), made up of 350 constituency seats and 150 party seats.

The constituency seats are directly elected by the people, where the candidate with the most votes wins the district in the first-past-the-post system. The results were released on Monday as shown below.

Default KL Bond Workshop: What You Should Know About Retail Bonds

In September 2018, the Securities Commission Malaysia introduced a new seasoning framework that would allow retail investors to access corporate bonds and sukuk traded in the over-the-counter (OTC) market.

Under the framework, only bonds that have been in the market for at least 12 months and have a minimum credit rating of A, among other criteria, can be traded.

While retail investors may be already familiar with stock and fixed deposit, direct retail bonds can provide a host of other benefits in their investment portfolio.

This seminar is suitable for anyone who is new to bond investments and interested to know more about the fundamentals of bonds.

Default Malacca Seminar: Where Do We Invest In This Challenging Market Environment

Seminar on 11 May 2019

Global equity markets have staged a remarkable turnaround in the first quarter of 2019. Even so, many factors behind 2018’s troubling decline remain unresolved while market pundits are still expecting the recession is imminent. Hence, we think it's important to consider investment strategies that can help investors capture good sources of long-term potential but that are also designed to provide resilience to downturns and deliver a more comfortable investment journey. Besides that, we will also be providing an update on FSM Managed Portfolio, an online investment advisory service that builds, monitors, and maintains investors’ portfolio.

Registration is free and open to public. Seats are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
