Bank Rakyat Expects 2009 Results To Be Better

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat)'s financial performance for the year ended December 2009 is expected to be better than that of 2008, says its Managing Director Datuk Kamaruzaman Che Mat.

"We are auditing now and once we get the approval including from Bank Negara, we will make the announcement. We expect profits to be higher than that of 2008," he said in his address during Bank Rakyat's Media Appreciation Night here Monday.

The event was attended by Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Bank Rakyat posted RM1.234 billion in profit before tax and zakat for the year ended Dec 31, 2008, a milestone for the bank, having crossed the RM1 billionth mark for the first time in its history.

The country's largest cooperative bank is reported to be projecting a pre-tax profit of RM1.3 billion for 2009.
