Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen has said that he understands why David Moyes has been sacked as the clubs manager.
The 50-year-old was dismissed as the United boss after just 10 months in charge, with the announcement being made on Tuesday morning.
The news followed a disappointing 2013-14 campaign for the Red Devils in which they have failed to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
United were also knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, and bowed out of the FA Cup and the League Cup as well.
Moyes, who succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson last summer, had come under increasingly scrutiny of late, although United had consistently said that they will give the Scot more time.
However, the former Everton boss has now been dismissed and Ryan Giggs will take charge of the team for the rest of the season.
Owen, a Liverpool legend who played for United between 2009 and 2012, has now stated on social networking site Twitter that he understand why the Manchester outfit made the decision to get rid of Moyes before the end of the season.
