Southern Irkutsk Region Bans Crypto Mining Until 2031

The Russian government has imposed a complete ban on crypto mining in southern Irkutsk until March 15, 2031, citing grid overload and power shortages. Governor Igor Kobzev said the restrictions affect 21 districts, including Irkutsk, Angarsk, and six other cities. A previous temporary ban freed up 320 MW of capacity, preventing the need for costly new infrastructure. Mining will now only be allowed with self-generated power and regulatory approval.
