If you had a vaccine with an excellent short term safety profile, then waiting for long term data before vaccinating children would make sense, but given the known short term risks, it is hard to see how waiting for more information could change anything.

Moderna Seeks to Expand Number of Children Aged 5-11 in Publicly Financed mRNA Clinical Trial Known as KidCOVE

Moderna seeks to expand its pediatric clinical trial, expanding the number of kids that would participate in the clinical trial in the age range of 5 to 11, the company shared with CNBC earlier this week. Why? The purported reason is that the company wants to expand the total number of subjects for additional safety, as this boosts the chance of sensing likely rare side effects. The company declined to share how many more children in the 5 to 11 age range would be included. Importantly, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning label last month to both mRNA vaccine makers (Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech) due to a condition associated with the vaccines—heart inflammation reported in young people that were vaccinated.

CHD Attorney Rolf Hazlehurst: ‘Absolutely Absurd’ to Let 11-Year-Olds Make Vaccine Decisions

Rolf Hazlehurst, senior staff attorney with Children’s Health Defense (CHD), on Monday appeared on the “Mornings With Nick Reed” radio show to discuss CHD’s lawsuit seeking to overturn the D.C. Minor Consent for Vaccinations Amendment Act of 2020.

The law, passed earlier this year in the District of Columbia, allows children as young as 11 to be vaccinated without their parents’ knowledge or consent.

Hazlehurst told host Kyle Wyatt how the D.C. law was designed specifically to deceive parents about their children’s vaccination status. He also discussed the issues associated with allowing an 11-year-old to make medical decisions.

According to Hazlehurst, the law states that a minor child 11 years of age or older may consent to receive a vaccine “if the minor is capable of meeting the informed consent standard and the vaccine is recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices,” which operates under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“It’s absolutely absurd to put an 11-year old in that position,” Hazlehurst said. “A child that age can be easily coerced, and they don’t comprehend the risk involved.”

Hazlehurst explained that without knowing their child was vaccinated, parents can’t monitor the child for potentially dangerous vaccine reactions, such as an allergic reaction or seizures.

Hazlehurst has firsthand knowledge about vaccine injuries. About 20 years ago, after his son developed autism following a vaccine, Hazlehurst learned “the hard way” what it’s like to try to get compensation for a vaccine injury through the government-run Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP).

Hazlehurst said:

“What most people don’t realize, if you are injured, or your child is injured, the pharmaceutical company can’t be held liable. Your right to a judge, a jury, the rules of law … are all taken away. You’re put in a subclass of citizenship … where the only legal remedy is a special master, who is nothing more than a government-appointed attorney.”

The VICP was established after pharmaceutical companies were granted immunity under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986.

To understand the 1986 law, Hazlehurst said, “you have to go back to the early 1980s,” when there were multiple lawsuits against vaccine makers alleging the DTP vaccine had caused seizures, brain damage and death.

“Two things happened as a result of those lawsuits,” Hazlehurst said. The DTP vaccine was replaced with the presumed safer DTAP vaccine, and pharmaceutical companies lobbied for liability protection, he explained.

Hazlehurst said the fact that vaccine-injured children and their parents are rarely compensated under the VICP is all the more reason not to allow 11-year-olds to make their own decisions when it comes to vaccines.

Under the VICP, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services medical staff reviews the petition for compensation, determines if it meets the medical criteria for compensation and makes a preliminary recommendation.

Then the U.S. Department of Justice develops a report that includes the medical recommendation and legal analysis and submits it to the court.

“So you’re up against the full weight of the government,” Hazlehurst said.

As for his son’s case, it was one of six that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court — where they lost.

Hazlehurst said the D.C. law is the first of its kind — but if it isn’t overturned, more will follow.

Oral arguments in CHD’s lawsuit are expected to occur between Aug. 25 – 30.

Listen to the full interview with Hazlehurst on the “Nick Reed Podcast.”

COVID-19: Kemboja mula vaksin remaja 12 hingga 17 tahun

- AFP

WASHINGTON: The United States will not lock down again to curb COVID-19 but "things are going to get worse" as the Delta variant fuels a surge in cases, mostly among the unvaccinated, top US infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci said on Sunday (Aug 1).

A sufficient percentage of Americans have now been vaccinated to avoid lockdowns, Fauci said on ABC's This Week.

"Not enough to crush the outbreak, but I believe enough to not allow us to get into the situation we were in last winter," he said.

The average number of new coronavirus cases reported nationwide has nearly doubled in the past 10 days, according to a Reuters analysis.

Even if states do not resort to lockdowns again, the spread of the Delta variant could still threaten the economy.

Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank President Neel Kashkari told CBS' Face the Nation that the Delta variant was "creating a bunch of caution" among millions of out-of-work Americans and could slow the US labour market recovery.

The surge in Delta variant cases is also rattling the globe. Parts of Asia that were previously relatively successful in containing COVID-19, such as the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, are now locking down hot spots.

Some are pushing back against new restrictions. From Monday, unarmed soldiers will help police Australia's biggest city Sydney, checking that people who have tested positive are isolating.

In France, where the government is fighting a fourth wave of infections, thousands of people protested for a third consecutive weekend against the introduction of a mandatory health pass proving vaccination that will be required for entry to many public venues.

While vaccines remain scarce in much of the world, they are freely available to anyone 12 years or older in the United States, where cash prizes, new cars and other incentives have failed to motivate more than a third of the population to get immunized.

"We have 100 million people in this country who are eligible to be vaccinated who are not getting vaccinated," said Fauci, who is also director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

About 58 per cent of Americans have received at least one dose of vaccine, ranging from a high of 76 per cent in Vermont to a low of 40 per cent in Mississippi.

After declining for weeks, the number of Americans getting vaccinated has started to rise again.

"The silver lining of this is that people are waking up to this and this may be a tipping point for those who have been hesitant," National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins told CNN on Sunday. "That's what desperately needs to happen if we're going to get this Delta variant put back in its place, because right now it's having a pretty big party in the middle of the country."

Florida has one of the worst outbreaks in the nation, based on new cases per capita and has seen infections rise 50% week-over-week. However, Governor Ron DeSantis has blocked mask mandates in the state's schools, saying parents should decide.

"It just makes common sense in a community where the virus is spreading, and that's pretty much all of Florida right now, to do everything you can to prevent that, which includes mask wearing for kids in schools," Collins said.

Kebiasaannya ia memberi kesan ringan.

- AFP
