HIGHWAY concessionaire Grand Saga has withdrawn its court action against State Local Government, Research and Studies Committee chairman Ronnie Liu over his involvement in the long-standing Bandar Mahkota Cheras (BMC) road closure episode.

However, Liu feels the Grand Saga should not just withdraw legal action against him alone but should also drop charges against the developer Narajaya Sdn Bhd, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) and the residents as well.
Liu: `It is not fair to the others’

Although the charges against him were dropped, Liu feels that since the state government has a substantial stake in Grand Saga, the company should withdraw charges against all the parties involved.

“It is not fair to the others. After all, what the state wants is a win-win solution for the benefit of all the parties involved,’’ he said.

Liu said this during the official opening of the Bandar Mahkota Cheras/Bandar Sungei Long DAP office by party supremo Lim Kit Siang.

The newly-launched DAP office will also serve as a service centre for MPKj councillor Lee Kee Hiang.

Liu said he would suggest to the state executive council to write to Grand Saga to drop all charges against all parties involved in the BMC problem.

The BMC episode hit the headlines in recent months when thousands of residents decided to remove a barricade placed by Grand Saga to block an access road to the highway.

In May, the residents tore down a barricade built by Grand Saga that prevented access into the housing area of some 40,000 residents.

Some of the large boulders removed were left in the middle of the road leading to BMC and this created a massive traffic jam at the underpass of the Cheras-Kajang highway between the BMC access road and Bandar Tun Hussein Onn access road.

This later turned ugly when residents and the police clashed when Grand Saga decided to put back the boulders to block off the access road.

Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohd had to intervene and the road is temporarily opened pending a court decision.
