My Mood:
Apple presented an extremely strong quarterly result after closure in New York yesterday. Apple sold 35 million iPhones which is 88 % up compared with same quarter in 2011, and 11,8 million iPads which is an increase of 151 % compared with 2011. The result after taxation was USD 11.622 Billion. The result pr. Share was USD 12,30 up from USD 6,40 or a growth on 92 %. In the after trade on Nasdaq Apple jumped 6,8 % to USD 598,38 equal to a capitalization of the world’s biggest company on USD 656,4 Billions.
The US exchanges recovered from the dismal start on the week. Dow Jones again passed the 13 0000 mark up 0,58 %. Nasdaq was down 0,30 % after disappointing results from Cisco System, Microsoft and Intel. AT&T Inc, General Electric, Caterpilar and Pfizer were all up and delivered better than expectations. The index for housing prices in US showed an increase for the first time in 10 months. This also contributed to the more positive sentiment in the markets.
The positive trend from US continued during the night’s trade in Asia where all the major exchanges are up. Japanese yen fall to 81.415 vs. USD on speculation that the Japanese Central Bank will intervene to stop the development towards a, too, strong yen. Euro/USD is at 1.3196. Both New Zealand and the Australian dollar are weaker against USD.
Oil and metal prices are demonstrating relative stability. After dipping below 118, Brent is this morning again trading on 118,40. Gold is marginally up trading at 1642. Futures for both Europe and US are slightly up. Apple’s good results are expected to have a positive impact on markets.
