Most of those on board the aircraft were Chinese and about 30 family members gathered outside an office building near Beijing's main airport in hopes of meeting Malaysian officials, although none attended.

"Our demand is to go to Reunion island and look for ourselves," said Hu Xiufang, who had three relatives, including her son, on board the plane.

"All the relatives want to go there," she said. "Malaysia is the country responsible and they should obtain the relevant documents."

2.MH370 came down in our maritime zone of responsibility and it is our international obligation, and our responsibility certainly to pay down our own costs when this activity occurs.

3.About 334 flights have been conducted, for a total of up to 3137 hours in the air.

4.So far, each country involved has borne its own costs. But Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss said Australia would be looking for increased involvement from companies such as Boeing – which made the 777 plane – and Rolls Royce – which built the engines – and their host countries.

5.Malaysian Transport Minister Hishamuddin Hussein added that none of the countries involved had so far raised the matter of costs with Malaysia, and added that there was now “a good platform for others to come forward and participate”.

6.Chinese Transport Minister Yang Chuantang vowed the search would not let up.
“We will continue to search in accordance with the consensus reached at this meeting and assure that the search will not be interrupted, not be suspended, not be given up and not be slacked,” he said.

7.Interestingly, the Chinese are refusing to wait for any private underwater contractor to be be hired, and are sending their own underwater search technology and ship to the search zone this coming Saturday, to continue to try and find the aircraft.

8.This rather secretive Chinese vessel is only defined as "Navy vessel 872, with strong underwater search capabilities".

9.There are apparently requests by some Chinese experts for the Navy to utilise the Chinese manned Jiaolong submersible, which has extreme depth capabilities - 7000M (22,965') - but there is no official indication at this point, that the Jiaolong will be used.

10.One would tend to define the Chinese efforts as "gung-ho", but that's the Chinese way.

Ocean Shield will today return to Fleet Base West to replenish its supplies and conduct routine maintenance and software modifications to Phoenix Autonomous Underwater Vehicle ‘Artemis’ Bluefin-21.

On completion of the short port visit, Ocean Shield will return immediately to the search area where the underwater search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 will continue.

The just-completed deployment began on 31 March with 56 personnel and specialist search equipment including a Towed Pinger Locator and Phoenix Autonomous Underwater Vehicle ‘Artemis’ Bluefin-21.

Although the search to date has not uncovered any evidence of possible aircraft debris during operations, the data collected during the 35 days at sea will assist in narrowing the search area for the final resting place of MH370.

The Australian Government is proud of the combined efforts of the Royal Australian Navy, United States Navy, civilian contractors from Phoenix International, Australian Transport Safety Bureau and the ship's crew.

Also at the request of the Australian Government, the U.S. Navy will continue supporting the MH370 sub-surface search effort with the Bluefin-21 side scan sonar for approximately 4 more weeks.

Goal number one for searchers is the collection of all serial numbers for matching and digital recreation of the airplane and it's last moments.

The Boeing 777 vanished from radar an hour into its flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. Why that happened is still a mystery.
Using the online satellite imagery website TomNod, Hoebel said he was shocked to find the plane resting in what appeared to be an unbroken state.

“I was taken aback because I couldn’t believe I would find this,” he told a local TV news channel.

Despite Mr Hoebel’s claims, the search for the missing plane will continue under the waters of the Indian Ocean.

The answer.

This is the answer to the mystery of flight MH370 . Remember that you heard it from me first.

This is the STAR (STandard AppRoach for IFR), named IKUKO. These SIDs & STARS are programmed into the FMS for the 777s and comes up when you hit APP/DEP button (nav database). You select IKUKO & Runway 22. But you need to be consciousness to make the turn at VENEV, and you have to have selected the altitude for the autopilot no later than IKUKO to drop no lower than 6000 & 1500, according to the STAR. You can fly higher, but these are minimums for the approach.

You need to be familiar with the SID & STAR procedures for various airports. Look up the approach procedures for WMKN airport. These are programmed into the FMS when you click the APP/DEP button in the 700-200.*

To someone familiar with the nav data this is easily added as a string of waypoints to the FMS, it becomes obvious. But it's hard to explain to people that don't understand how to program the FMS. Basically, the flight computers adds a lot of waypoints that you don't have to manually enter.

It literally takes 5-6 seconds to click APP/DEP, and select the approach STAR for WMKN along with the desired (or assigned) runway, runway 22 was easiest from the sea for emergency, hit execute & make alt route as active. But there is typically a discontinuity for what is called VECTORS. This is where a local ATC gives you heading to capture a ILS localizer. It means that the plane will not land itself on ILS (because you also have to put it in ILS APP mode when near the localizer).

Any 777 pilot will know what I'm referring to. If you don't believe me, go ask one to test programing their FMS from IGARI to WMKN to runway 22. Fly that and see where it takes you if you don't make final turn to runway 22.

Jonathan Langdale.

Up to 10 military aircraft and 10 ships will assist in today's search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Today the Australian Maritime Safety Authority has planned a visual search area totaling approximately 49,491 square kilometres. The centre of the search area lies approximately 1584 kilometres north west of Perth.

Bluefin-21 AUV is currently completing mission nine in the underwater search area. Bluefin-21 has searched approximately two thirds of the focused underwater search area to date. No contacts of interest have been found to date.

The focused underwater search area is defined as a circle of 10km radius around the second Towed Pinger Locator detection which occurred on 8 April.

The weather forecast for today is for scattered showers to continue with south easterly winds, sea swells up to three metres and visibility of four kilometres.

PERTH, (Bernama) - Four military aircraft had departed Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Pearce located north of here despite an earlier decision to suspend air search activities for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 on Tuesday.

They were joined by an RAAF E7 Wedgetail aircraft to support airspace deconfliction that departed from RAAF Base Learmonth, the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC), which oversees the search operation, said in its latest statement.

Noting that the aircraft would continue with their missions, it however said individual aircraft captains would assess the conditions and use their discretion as to whether they would continue their planned search activities or return to base.

JACC had earlier Tuesday said air search activities for the day were suspended due to poor weather conditions in the search area as a result of Tropical Cyclone Jack.

It had said the heavy seas and poor visibility would make any air search activities ineffective and potentially hazardous.

However, 10 ships involved in today's search continued with their planned activities.

Depth of approximately 4,500 meters. 4,500 meters is also the limit of capability for the autonomous underwater vehicle.

It takes 3 hours simply to turn the Ocean Shield around and pass through the search area once again, due to the extremely long length of the cable towing the pinger locator behind the ship.

Hands podium off to Commodore Peter Leavy of Australian Navy.
Ocean Shield currently on the 5th leg of "an expanding box" search area. "If they make another detection on this run, that will be the signal to release the underwater search vehicle."
Each of the runs they conduct is roughly 7 miles long, takes 7-8 hours plus the 3 hour turnaround.

Back to Cmdr. Houston:
- Q: possible this is a false signal?
- A: "My view is, my personal view is, probably not, but as you just heard strange things happen in the ocean and I would want more confirmation before we say 'This is it'." Emphasizes the importance of finding some wreckage.
Q: Any news on the white floating objects previously reported?
A: "Yes, they have been checked out and they have no relation to MH370."

U.S. Commander William Marks on CNN via telephone afterwards:
"Pulse" signal detected was being emitted once per second. Detected at depth of 300 meters. Turned of all other noise producing devices on the ship to ensure no false readings. Lowered pinger locator to 1,400 meters. Got a stronger, confirmed signal which then faded a bit as they progressed away from the location. This is what you would expect, consistent with a "black box" signal - the signal grew stronger as they approached the "black box", then faded as they traveled away. Ocean Shield did a course correction and a turn around, then detected another signal, which is likely the 2nd "black box".

- dua pesawat C-130 Malaysia.
- sebuah pesawat Ilyushin IL-76 China.
- sebuah pesawat G5 Pengawal Pantai Jepun.
- sebuah pesawat P3 Orion Australia.
- sebuah pesawat P3 Orion New Zealand.
- sebuah pesawat awam New Zealand.
- sebuah pesawat P8 Poseidon Amerika Syarikat.
- sebuah pesawat P3 Orion Jepun.
- sebuah pesawat P3 Orion Korea Selatan.

- Lapan kapal China:
- Xue Long,
- Kunlunshan,
- Haikou,
- Qiandaohu Jian,
- Jing Gang Shan,
- Haixun,
- Dong Hai Jian,
- Nan Hai Jian.

Tiga kapal Australia:

- HMAS Success,
- HMAS Toowoomba

Mesyuarat Menteri-menteri Pertahanan ASEAN

AMSA LATEST MEDIA RELEASE

"28th March, 2014: 1115(AEDT)

Search operation for Malaysia Airlines aircraft: Update 25

Five aircraft spotted multiple objects of various colours during Friday’s search for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370.

Search activities have now concluded. A total of 256,000 square kilometres was searched.

Photographic imagery of the objects was captured and will be assessed overnight.

The objects cannot be verified or discounted as being from MH370 until they are relocated and recovered by ships.

A Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) P3 Orion reported sighting a number of objects white or light in colour and a fishing buoy.

A Royal Australian Air Force P3 Orion relocated the objects detected by the RNZAF Orion and reported it had seen two blue/grey rectangular objects floating in the ocean.

A second RAAF P3 Orion spotted various objects of various colours in a separate part of the search area about 546 kilometres away.

A total of ten planes were tasked by AMSA in today’s search and all have now departed the search area.

AMSA has tasked Chinese Maritime Administration patrol ship, Haixun 01, which is in the search area and will be in a position to relocate the objects on Saturday.

Friday’s search area was shifted north after international air crash investigators in Malaysia provided the latest credible lead available to AMSA.

This was on the advice of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).

Weather conditions in the area are expected to be reasonable for searching on Saturday."

Perth (Australia) (AFP) - A multinational fleet of planes and ships raced Friday to a fresh search zone after a "credible new lead" that Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 was flying faster than first thought before it plunged into the remote Indian Ocean.

Ten aircraft from six countries -- Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States -- diverted to an area 1,100 kilometres (685 miles) northeast of where they have been looking for a week, far off western Australia.

Five Chinese ships and an Australian naval vessel were also steaming to the new zone of interest after the weather cleared following the suspension of the air search Thursday due to thunderstorms and high winds, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said.

"The new information is based on continuing analysis of radar data between the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca before radar contact was lost (with the missing plane)," AMSA said.
"It indicated that the aircraft was travelling faster than previously estimated, resulting in increased fuel usage and reducing the possible distance the aircraft travelled south into the Indian Ocean."
The new area is closer to land, meaning planes can spend more time searching before having to return to refuel, and the weather is expected to be better there.

26 MARCH 2014, 5:30PM

Introductory statement

The search for MH370 continues. Our efforts are now focused in the southern Indian Ocean, where a multi-national team, led by Australia, is combing the waters trying to find debris from the flight.

Our determination to find MH370 remains steadfast. As we have said all along, we will never give up trying to find the plane – in order to bring closure for the families, and to establish exactly what happened to MH370.

New satellite images

Australia, China and France have already released satellite images, showing objects that may be related to MH370.

Yesterday, on 25 March, the Malaysian Remote Sensing Agency (MRSA) received new satellite images from Airbus Defence and Space, which is based in France. The images were taken on 23 March.

MRSA analysed the images and - in one area of the ocean measuring some 400 square kilometres - were able to identify 122 potential objects.
Some objects were a metre in length; others were as much as 23 metres in length. Some of the objects appeared to be bright, possibly indicating solid materials.

The objects were located approximately 2,557 kilometres from Perth.
We will issue handouts relating to this new information, after this press conference.

MRSA’s findings were immediately forwarded to the Australian Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Perth yesterday.

It must be emphasized that we cannot tell whether the potential objects are from MH370. Nevertheless, this is another new lead that will help direct the search operation.
We have now had four separate satellite leads, from Australia, China and France, showing possible debris. It is now imperative that we link the debris to MH370. This will enable us to further reduce the search area, and locate more debris from the plane.

2. Operational update

Australia is leading the search effort in the southern Indian Ocean, based out of Perth. Malaysia continues to play a co-ordinating role. All countries involved are displaying unprecedented levels of co-operation; that has not changed.

Australia has divided the search area into two sectors, East and West.
Today the weather has improved, and twelve planes will travel to the search area – six in the East sector and six in the West.

In the East sector, searches will be conducted by:
· one Australian P3 Orion, and three Australian civilian aircraft.
· one Chinese Ilyushin IL-76.
· one New Zealand P3 Orion.

In the West sector, searches will be conducted by:
· one US P8 Poseidon.
· one Korean P3 Orion.
· one Japanese P3 Orion.
· two Australian P3 Orions, and one civilian aircraft.

Two ships will also join the search operations.

Yesterday ‘HMAS Success’ was redeployed to the south of the search area due to bad weather. Today the ship has returned and will support the search operation in the West sector.

Meanwhile, the Chinese ship ‘Xue Long’ has today been deployed to the East sector.

A Japanese Coast Guard gulfstream aircraft left Subang this morning for Perth, to join the search operation.

As I mentioned yesterday, the search operations in the northern corridor, and in the northern part of the southern corridor, have been called off. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent diplomatic notes to all relevant countries to formally inform them of this change.

Before I continue, I would like to convey our appreciation to the Australian authorities, and in particular to Prime Minister Tony Abbot, for making such an extraordinary contribution to the search operation.

Chinese Special Envoy

Today, the Prime Minister met with His Excellency Zhang Yesui, the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy of the Government of China. I also met with His Excellency this afternoon.

During our conversation His Excellency conveyed China’s commitment to continue and intensify the search operation in any way possible, and to deploy any assets that may be required.

Malaysia has provided his His Excellency and his delegation with a full update on the latest information from Inmarsat.

His Excellency and his delegation also received a comprehensive briefing from the international technical team.

4. International Working Group

As I mentioned yesterday, based on the new information provided by Inmarsat, we have established an international working group. The agencies involved in this working group include: Inmarsat, AAIB, the Chinese CAAC and AAID, NTSB, FAA, Boeing and Rolls Royce, as well as the relevant Malaysian authorities.

The role of the working group is to help try and refine the Inmarsat data and, if possible, more accurately determine the final position of MH370.

5. Further information

I should like to note that the CEO of Malindo Airlines, Chandran Rama Murthy, has joined me on stage today, and will be able to answer any questions that you might have.

As I announced yesterday, MAS is now taking a lead in communicating with the families and is conducting their own press conferences. MAS will hold another press conference tomorrow.

Concluding remarks

New satellite images continue to provide clues in the search for MH370. And with improved weather conditions, aircraft are now able to investigate objects of interest.

I would like to thank once again our international partners for their continued support and assistance. The search for MH370, and the investigation into what happened on board the flight, is now a truly international effort.
ENDS

- AFP

This evening I was briefed by representatives from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB). They informed me that Inmarsat, the UK company that provided the satellite data which indicated the northern and southern corridors, has been performing further calculations on the data. Using a type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort, they have been able to shed more light on MH370’s flight path.

Based on their new analysis, Inmarsat and the AAIB have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth.

This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

We will be holding a press conference tomorrow with further details. In the meantime, we wanted to inform you of this new development at the earliest opportunity. We share this information out of a commitment to openness and respect for the families, two principles which have guided this investigation.

Malaysia Airlines have already spoken to the families of the passengers and crew to inform them of this development. For them, the past few weeks have been heartbreaking; I know this news must be harder still. I urge the media to respect their privacy, and to allow them the space they need at this difficult time.

He writes:
German and American oceanographers are planning to deploy the world's three unmanned Abyss type deep sea search submarines to track down the remains of the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Der Spiegel magazine said scientists at the Helmholtz Oceanography Institute in the German port city of Kiel had arranged with their counterparts at the Massachusetts-based Woods Hole Institute to deploy the three submarines which can drive to depths of 6,000 meters and stay submerged for up to 24 hours.

"We have already agreed to launch a joint search with our American colleagues," said Peter Herzig, the director of the Helmholtz Institute.

"With Sonar from three submarines we will be able to search a much bigger area."
Mr Herzig said that his team had just renewed the batteries on their Abyss and were checking the €1.5 million submarine's engines and sensors in preparation for swift deployment. He said they were now simply waiting for wreckage of flight MH370 to be sighted.

An organised cloud mass just to the southwest of Christmas Island is Severe Tropical Cyclone "Gillian".

A surface trough lies near the west coast of WA and a few thunderstorms remain to its east. A few isolated thunderstorms also remain about parts of the northern tropics.

A band of patchy middle and high-level cloud extends from the southeast of WA across South Australia, through New South Wales and Victoria to Tasmania is associated with an upper trough. Another cloud band, associated with a cold front, is crossing Tasmania.

Another band of cloud, featuring isolated thunderstorms, over the Tasman Sea is associated with a weakening frontal system and trough.

The east track has been overlaid with light blue and hourly positions placed on it using a GS of 470 KTS.

As the projection used is Equidistant, the tracks appear to be diverging to the west. If stretched in a polar direction, i.e. Mercator projection, those tracks should form a straight line and cross all Lat/Long at constant angles.

However, if a way-point a large distance away has been entered into the FMS, the aircraft will be following a great circle path and a curved track on a Mercator projection is what one would expect.

Final AMSA media release for today:

Search operation for Malaysian airlines aircraft: Update 7
Search operations in the Southern Indian Ocean for the missing Malaysia Airlines aircraft have been completed for the day in the Australian Search and Rescue Region.
Four aircraft were tasked by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority on Thursday to a 23,000 square kilometre area about 2500 kilometres south-west of Perth.
This followed the receipt of satellite data imagery from the Australian Geospatial Intelligence Organisation on Thursday morning.
The imagery, on analysis by AGO, identified two objects possibly related to the missing aircraft.
The images were captured on March 16..Due to the volume of imagery being searched, and the detailed process of analysis that followed, the information was brought to the attention of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority on Thursday morning.
The images have been assessed as being credible but it is possible they do not relate to the search.
The four aircraft involved in Thursday’s search covered an area of 23000 square kilometres.
Two Royal Australia Air Force AP-3C Orions, a US Navy P8 Poseidon, and a Royal New Zealand Air ForceP-3K2 Orion were utilised, along with an RAAF C-130J Hercules aircraft.
A merchant ship arrived in the search area on Thursday evening. Another merchant ship is en route to the area.
A total of six merchant ships have assisted in the search since a shipping broadcast was issued on Monday night.
The Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Success is also en route to the search area.
The search will continue on Friday.

• Tan Sri Khalid - Semua penumpang, krew & kakitangan pengendalian pesawat MH370 sedang disiasat.

An airplane of the Malaysia Airlines, with 239 people, including five Indians aboard, vanished while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing March 8.

Whilst the disappearance of the Boeing 777 jet, carrying 239 passengers has left the whole world in bewilderment, several residents of Kuda Huvadhoo told Haveeru on Tuesday that they saw a "low flying jumbo jet" at around 6:15am on March 8.

They said that it was a white aircraft, with red stripes across it – which is what the Malaysia Airlines flights typically look like.

Eyewitnesses from the Kuda Huvadhoo concurred that the aeroplane was travelling North to South-East, towards the Southern tip of the Maldives – Addu. They also noted the incredibly loud noise that the flight made when it flew over the island.*

"I've never seen a jet flying so low over our island before. We've seen seaplanes, but I'm sure that this was not one of those. I could even make out the doors on the plane clearly," said an eyewitness.

"It's not just me either, several other residents have reported seeing the exact same thing. Some people got out of their houses to see what was causing the tremendous noise too."

Mohamed Zaheem, the Island Councilor of Kuda Huvadhoo, said that the residents of the island had spoken about the incident.

A local aviation expert told Haveeru that it is "likely" for MH370 to have flown over the Maldives. The possibility of any aircraft flying over the island at the reported time is extremely low, the expert added.

The Malaysia airlines jet disappeared on March 8 with 239 people on board after taking off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing. Investigators say it was deliberately diverted off course.

Twenty-six countries are now helping to hunt for the plane after satellite and military radar data projected two huge corridors through which it might have flown.

Satellite data suggests that the last "ping" was recieved from the flight somwhere close to the Maldives and the US naval base on Diego Garcia.

But the Maldives is not amongst the countries that Malaysian authorities had sought help from in its search for the missing jet. Malaysia has listed the countries that it had appealed for assistance: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, China, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and France.

US officials in Kuala Lumpur are working “in close cooperation with the Malaysian government,” White House spokesman Jay Carney said at his daily briefing, calling the search “a difficult and unusual situation”:

They are in a truly agonizing situation. We remain fully committed to assisting the Malaysians and working with our other international partners … I can assure you we are in a close, collaborative relationship.

Asked about the notion that the plane could have landed at Diego Garcia, the US military base in the central Indian Ocean, Carney was dismissive:

I’ll rule that one out.

A: When we send diplomatic notes to other countries involved within the 2 corridors. Verbally, more than half have responded. Mst of them have agreed verbally.
Q: What's the forensic radar from countries in Northern and SOuthern corridors? What's the cost of SAR involved?
A: We get data from radar and satellites from the countries involved in addition to physical SAR assets.
Cost is not an issue with countries that have participated. Ultimate objective is to find the plane.
Q: Has investigations revealed any personal problems with pilots?
A: We cannot say for the moment.
Q: Why didnt the Malaysian army detect the plane when it turned around and will any action be taken for any lapse of attention?
A: Only when the radar is corroborated with other interational agencies will we reveal that to the public.
Malaysian army didn't believe the unidentified aircraft was hostile.
Q: What implications does this have on Malaysia's national security when we've been unable to detect the plane.
A: We will have to revisit our radar capabilities down the road. Right now our priority is to find the plane.
Q: Are there any valuables on the aircraft?
A: With regards to cargo, There were mangosteens that were enroute to China. About 4 tonnes of mangosteens.
Q: What about other theories that the plane was remotedly controlled?
A: It's quite improbably in my opinion but if additional evidence arises, we will investigate them. We need to look at facts from a variety of authorities involved to ensure that they are corroborated.
Q: What's the focus of the Southern Corridor?
A: We are relying satellite and radar data from the Americans and Australians for our search in the Southern Corridor.
Q: Pilots go through psychological tests as a procedure. Will there be changes to the tests? What are steps that MAS will take to reassure security?
A: Psych tests are obligatory. Going forward we'll look at how we can improve these tests. Right now, internally we're on Code Tango where security is heightened.
Q: Has China provided any intelligence on the possibility of the plane being hijacked by any Eastern extremist groups?
A: We forwarded the passenger manifests to China and it was cleared. We've requested that China relook and reintensified their investigation into the list.
Q: Was the plane's EMLS working?
A: For all aircraft before takeoff, all systems must be functioning, especially the emergency systems.
Q: Have you been able to determine if any passengers were successful in making phone calls or text messages.
A: We've not had any indication from telephone companies of any call attempts being made. It is being under investigation.
Q: Were there any other passengers with experience in flying?
A: The police is currently doing an investigation into the background of the passengers.
Q: Do you believe the person who said "alright good night" was the pilot or copilot?
A: Initial investigations suggest that it was the copilot. Any indications of stress is part of the investigation.
Q: What time was the ACARS disabled? What time was the copilot's final communication to ATC?
A: Last ACARS transmission was 0107. We don't know when the ACARS was switched off. It was supposed to transmit in the next 30 minutes, so it could be any time since then.
According to records, it was 0119 when the copilot made the last transmission.
Q: Is it unusual that the ACARS was switched off?
A: There was no indication from the ATC that the ACARS was switched off. It was revealed when we did the investigation that information was not downloaded by the ACARS.
Q: Why are they 2 distinct corridors instead of every possible location within the radius?
A: The only information we can glean from satellite handshakes is the time the handshakes were made. We calculated the minimum and maximum speed that the aircraft could take. Minimum speed led us to Laos and the maximum speed led us to the Caspian Sea. In the southern corridor, the search area stretches from West Sumatra to the Southern Indian Ocean. This has been corroborated by the NTSB and we will share these with the French authorties.
Q: How long after the final ping at 8am could the plane gave flown?
A: We estimated it could've flown for about 30 minutes.
Q: It's been more than 48 hours since the simulator has been siezed, wht has been found out?
A: We will reveal that when we have the information.
Q: Was it possible that ACARS was disabled after final communication at 0119?
A: We don't know when the ACARS was disabled. The investigation team is looking at all possibilities.
Q: More Chinese are becoming anxious with the slow SAR. Has Malaysia government thought about using social media like Webo to communicate with the Chinese?
A: I am on Weibo myself and have been on CCTV. Feedback I've got has been positive when engaging with families. Whatever we do, we have to take into account the families. We have to be careful when releasing statements.

“Initial investigations showed it was the co-pilot who spoke the last time on tape,” Ahmad Jauhari told a press conference.

Fariq had said “Alright, good night,” before the aircraft disappeared with 238 people onboard. It has been missing since March 8.

Ahmad Jauhari had also dismissed the possibility that the last communication from the aircraft could have come from another individual.

Meanwhile, at the same press conference, Defence and Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein police visited the homes of the pilot Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah and Fariq on March 9 and again on Saturday.

He said the pilot’s flight simulator was taken from his house and was re-assembled at police headquarters.

“At this point, I would like to stress that Malaysia has been co-operating with the FBI, Interpol and other relevant international law enforcement authorities since day one,” he said.

Hishamuddin said to date, the number of countries involved in the search and rescue operation for MH370 has increased to 26, adding that Malaysia is leading the search effort.

Kuala Lumpur: Kehilangan pesawat Penerbangan Malaysia (MAS) MH 370 sejak seminggu lalu mengingatkan kepada insiden sama menimpa pengasas Kumpulan Syarikat Upali, Philip Upali Wijewardene, 31 tahun lalu.

Siasatan awal Jabatan Penerbangan Malaysia (DCA) mendapati pesawat bergerak terlalu pantas.

-12.40am Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 leaves Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for Beijing, China, with 239 people on board.
-1.20am Plane’s communications with civilian air controllers disabled before aircraft reaches east coast of Malaysia.
-8.11am Last confirmed signal between the plane and a satellite.
-Vietnamese planes spot two large oil slicks near the plane’s last known location, but proves a false alarm.

SUNDAY, MARCH 9:
-Malaysia says it is investigating potential terror link to the jet’s disappearance.
-It also reveals for the first time that the aircraft may have veered dramatically off course, turning west back towards Kuala Lumpur for no apparent reason
-Meanwhile, Interpol confirms that at least two passports recorded as lost or stolen in its database were used by passengers, adding that it is “examining additional suspect passports”.
-Investigators narrow focus on disastrous scenario that the plane disintegrated mid-flight.

MONDAY, MARCH 10:
-China admonishes Malaysia, saying it should accelerate its investigation.
-The United States review of American spy satellite imagery detects no evidence of mid-air explosion.
-Malaysia despatches ships to investigate possible sighting of a possible life raft, but only flotsam is found.
-Speculation mounts over whether a bomb or hijacking could have brought down the airliner.

TUESDAY, MARCH 11:
-Authorities identify the two men with stolen passports as young Iranians who are believed to be illegal immigrants, rather than terrorists. Interpol says that the more information they obtain the less likely it appears that a terrorist incident has occurred.
-Search area widens to include areas significantly removed from the flight’s scheduled route, including territory on the Malaysian peninsula and the waters off its west coast.
-A US company asks internet users to scour satellite images of more than 1,200 square miles of open seas for any signs of wreckage.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12:
-It emerges that US regulators warned months ago of a problem with “cracking and corrosion” of the fuselage skin on Boeing 777s that could cause a mid-air break-up. The search is expanded again, this time to an area stretching from China to India.
-Malaysia’s air force chief reveals that an unidentified object was detected on military radar north of the Malacca Strait early on Saturday March 8 but is stilll being examined.

THURSDAY MARCH 13:
-Malaysia deny US reports that cite investigators saying that they suspect the plane flew for four hours after its last known contact.
-Authorities in Kuala Lumpur also dismiss Chinese satellite images of possible debris in the South China Sea as yet another false alarm.

FRIDAY MARCH 14:
-Malaysia refuses to comment on fresh reports quoting US officials saying the plane’s communication system continued to contact a satellite hours after it disappeared, suggesting it may have actually travelled a massive distance.
-White House also refers to “new information” that the jet may have continued flying after losing contact.

SATURDAY MARCH 15:
-Prime Minister Najib Razak reveals at a press conference that the aircraft’s communications systems were deliberately disabled and that its last signal came more than six hours after takeoff. Police search home of plane’s pilot.
=PM Malaysia confirmed the 'unknown' plane that make u-turn was indeed MH370.
=Search and rescue operation in South China Sea are stopped and will focus toward Straits of Malacca, Andaman Sea and Hindi Sea.
=Plane could be in northern corridor - border of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan to north of Thai / southern corridor Ina to southern India.
=Last radar contact 8.11 am.

From the Guardian Liveblog quoting the Reuters article:
In a far more detailed description of the military radar plotting than has been publicly revealed, the first two sources said the last confirmed position of MH370 was at 35,000 feet about 90 miles (144 km) off the east coast of Malaysia, heading towards Vietnam, near a navigational waypoint called “Igari”. The time was 1:21 a.m.
The military track suggests it then turned sharply westwards, heading towards a waypoint called “Vampi”, northeast of Indonesia’s Aceh province and a navigational point used for planes following route N571 to the Middle East.
From there, the plot indicates the plane flew towards a waypoint called “Gival”, south of the Thai island of Phuket, and was last plotted heading northwest towards another waypoint called “Igrex”, on route P628 that would take it over the Andaman Islands and which carriers use to fly towards Europe.
The time was then 2:15 a.m.

EXCLUSIVE-Radar data suggests missing Malaysia plane flown deliberately toward Andamans - sources

By Niluksi Koswanage and Siva Govindasamy

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Reuters) - Military radar-tracking evidence suggests a Malaysia Airlines jetliner missing for nearly a week was deliberately flown across the Malay peninsula towards the Andaman Islands, sources familiar with the investigation told Reuters on Friday.

Two sources said an unidentified aircraft that investigators believe was Flight MH370 was following a route between navigational waypoints - indicating it was being flown by someone with aviation training - when it was last plotted on military radar off the country's northwest coast.

The last plot on the military radar's tracking suggested the plane was flying toward India's Andaman Islands, a chain of isles between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, they said.

Waypoints are geographic locations, worked out by calculating longitude and latitude, that help pilots navigate along established air corridors.

A third source familiar with the investigation said inquiries were focusing increasingly on the theory that someone who knew how to fly a plane deliberately diverted the flight, with 239 people on board, hundreds of miles off its intended course from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

"What we can say is we are looking at sabotage, with hijack still on the cards," said that source, a senior Malaysian police official.

All three sources declined to be identified because they were not authorised to speak to the media and due to the sensitivity of the investigation.

Officials at Malaysia's Ministry of Transport, the official point of contact for information on the investigation, did not return calls.

Ia membawa 239 penumpang, 38 daripadanya warga Malaysia.

A Thai travel agent has revealed that she booked the two men who traveled on stolen passports and that Mr. Ali payed for the tickets.

The two travelers were meant to fly out of Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam via Beijing. One of them would then have taken a connecting flight to Copenhagen, and the other to Frankfurt.

Malaysian authorities said on Monday they identified one of the two men but did not release his name.

Police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the man is a non-Malaysian. Authorities were able to identify him using airport video surveillance, AFP reported.

"That's all we can reveal," he told AFP. "We are still ascertaining whether they (the two suspects using stolen passports) came in legally or illegally."

Fire up the old rate x time = distance here... 554.4 mph x 7.5 hours = 4,158 miles of feasible flight. That's the radius. Seems that the meat of what went wrong happened at 6°33′05″N 103°20′39″E . So we just need to draw a radius of 4,158 around that point (and then layer on notable events etc.).

Note: I'm not implying the plane actually flew to anyplace in the feasible radius. My point is to illustrate the range of potential destinations/targets that would-be hijackers could have been targeting. For the sake of the exercise, assume the plane was hijacked by someone(s) who wanted to fly the plane into something, somewhere. What, and where, are the range of options? That's the point.

Pensyarah Fakulti Kejuruteraan Mekanikal Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Dr. Ir.

Some of the possible causes for the plane disappearing include:

1. A catastrophic structural failure: Most aircraft are made of aluminum which is susceptible to corrosion over time, especially in areas of high humidity. But given the plane's long history and impressive safety record, experts suggest that a failure of the airframe, or the plane's Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines, is unlikely.

More of a threat to the plane's integrity is the constant pressurization and depressurization of the cabin for takeoff and landing. In April 2011, a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 made an emergency landing shortly after takeoff from Phoenix after the plane's fuselage ruptured, causing a 1.5-metre tear. The plane, with 118 people on board, landed safely. But such a rupture is less likely in this case. Airlines fly the 777 on longer distances, with many fewer takeoffs and landings, putting less stress on the airframe.

"It's not like this was Southwest Airlines doing 10 flights a day," Hamilton said. "There's nothing to suggest there would be any fatigue issues."

2. Bad weather: Planes are designed to fly through most severe storms. However, in June 2009, an Air France flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed during a bad storm over the Atlantic Ocean. Ice built up on the Airbus A330's airspeed indicators, giving false readings. That, and bad decisions by the pilots, led the plane into a stall causing it to plummet into the sea. All 228 passengers and crew aboard died. The pilots never radioed for help.

In the case of Saturday's Malaysia Airlines flight, all indications show that there were clear skies.

3. Pilot disorientation: Curtis said that the pilots could have taken the plane off autopilot and somehow went off course and didn't realize it until it was too late. The plane could have flown for another five or six hours from its point of last contact, putting it up to about 4,800 miles away. This is unlikely given that the plane probably would have been picked up by radar somewhere. But it's too early to eliminate it as a possibility.

4. Failure of both engines: In January 2008, a British Airways 777 crashed about 300 metres short of the runway at London's Heathrow Airport. As the plane was coming in to land, the engines lost thrust because of ice buildup in the fuel system. There were no fatalities.

Loss of both engines is possible in this case, but Hamilton said the plane could glide for up to 20 minutes, giving pilots plenty of time to make an emergency call. When a US Airways A320 lost both of its engines in January 2009 after taking off from LaGuardia Airport in New York it was at a much lower elevation. But Capt. Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger still had plenty of communications with air traffic controllers before ending the six-minute flight in the Hudson River.

5. A bomb: Several planes have been brought down including Pan Am Flight 103 between London and New York in December 1988. There was also an Air India flight in June 1985 between Montreal and London and a plane in September 1989 flown by French airline Union des Transports Aériens which blew up over the Sahara.

6. Hijacking: A traditional hijacking seems unlikely given that a plane's captors typically land at an airport and have some type of demand. But a Sept.11 attacks-like hijacking is possible, with terrorists forcing the plane into the ocean.

7. Pilot suicide: There were two large jet crashes in the late 1990s — a SilkAir flight and an EgyptAir flight— that are believed to have been caused by pilots deliberately crashing the planes. Government crash investigators never formally declared the crashes suicides but both are widely acknowledged by crash experts to have been caused by deliberate pilot actions.

8. Accidental shoot-down: There have been incidents when a country's military unintentionally shot down civilian aircraft. In July 1988, the United States Navy missile cruiser USS Vincennes accidently shot down an Iran Air flight, killing all 290 passengers and crew. In September 1983, a Korean Air Lines flight was shot down by a Russian fighter jet.

Turutan nombor tiket menunjukkan ia dibeli bersama, lapor CNN.
