Glucosamine is a naturally occurring substance produced in human body from glucose, and is used in the maintenance and regeneration of healthy cartilage in joints.

The articulating surfaces of the bones (the ends of the bones that come/rub together forming the joint) are covered in articular cartilage and are bathed in Synovial Fluid - "joint oil". In a normal healthy joint the articular cartilage is smooth and the synovial fluid is of sufficient high quality to provide adequate lubrication.

Articular cartilage is one of the first tissues to age and has relatively poor powers of regeneration because of the poor blood supply to the area, even in a healthy individual. The delicate balance between wear and renewal can be easily upset - a strain, a slip or fall, repeated heavy use or poor nutrition can start a cycle of events that will lead to progressive degeneration of the joint.

The natural reaction of joints to a strain, injury or wear and tear is to become inflamed. This causes sustained, if not greater, inflammation - a self perpetuating cycle leading to degenerative joint disease in human as the body cannot produce enough glucosamine to keep up to the rate of repair and renewal that would be necessary. This is especially true of an elderly with the slowing down of body systems that comes with age.

Regulate your joint health
Dyna-RH with its glucosamine sulfate content serves as adjunctive therapy in osteoarthritis. Glucosamine sulfate, a constituent of cartilage, is a small molecule that is easily absorbed into the blood and joints when taken as a supplement. Glucosamine sulfate has been shown to decrease pain and improve joint function in osteoarthritis patients. Although its exact mechanism for improving osteoarthritis symptoms is not known, experiments suggest glucosamine may stimulate cartilage matrix formation, reduce enzymatic digestion of cartilage components and provide an anti-inflammatory effect.

Idris Bin Abdullah, Batu Pahat, Johor
I was a smoker for almost 50 years. I suffered from many elderly diseases when I get older because I did not care for my health and have the healthy food when I was young. What made me suffered most is the worsening of the lung functions. I could not perform vigorous activities and was forced to stay at home on most of the times because I feel weak and I even could not breathe normally after I was diagnosed with the lung diseases. Furthermore, there was an abnormal swelling at my right shoulder, making me feel uncomfortable.

Luckily I met with The Life Shop. I feel healthy and better after I took Yamato Clam and Chlorophyll Capsule. I took the products as guided with the medicine from the doctor under the inspiration from my daughters. I feel fresh and able to carry out basic household works after few weeks of consumption. The abnormal swelling at my right shoulder also seems to become smaller because the toxic was excreted out from my body after I took Chlorophyll Capsule.

I will certainly continue to take The Life Shop products because it helps me to regain my health. I will also adapt to the healthy eating patterns, manage my stress properly and follow the doctor’s guidance to further improve my health.

The History of Yamato Clam and Its Birth Place-Shinji Lake

“Yamato” is the ancient name that was referred to “Japan” or “Japanese” in general. Yamato, named after the ancient Japanese Yamato Province, was a battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the World War II. The era of Japanese Emperor Regime begun and the royal family of Japan took Yamato Clam as the good source of food for health maintenance.

Yamato Clam is found in Shinji Lake, the lake that comes together with the sea water and fresh water. The level of oxygen is highly depleted due to its high volume of salt found in the lake. Yamato Clam is able to survive in this harsh environment by assembling the essence from the river, algae and plankton from the sea. Also, it collects the minerals from the nearby hot springs, making it a suitable natural food that comprises major nutrients for health regulation.

Shinji Lake has been designated as a Wetland of International Importance. And has been included in the list of Wetlands of International Importance established by article 2.1 of the Ramsar Convention. It is also designated as a Special Protection Area of National Wildlife Protection Area by the Government of Japan. The Ramsar Convention was set up in 1971 in Iran's Ramsar City. The objective of Ramsar Convention is apt to seen to be a convention for the protection of waterbirds, but is steadily evolving to include fish and shell fish and the protection of all the many functions of a wetland ecosystem by various Resolutions and Recommendations which was adopted at the Conference of the Contracting Parties held once every three years.

40% of Japan's Yamato Clam which is popular for Japanese dishes supplies come from Shinji Lake. Shinji Lake is an abundant supply of seafood worldwide.

Yamato Clams have been used traditionally as a liver enhancing tonic, and to treat liver disorders for ages. Unfortunately, some people miss out on a real health-enhancing miracle because they’ve heard that one can contract Hepatitis A from eating contaminated clams. But the truth is that if the clams come from a fresh uncontaminated source, they are actually one of the best things you can take for your liver.

In Japan, Yamato Clams is routinely taken for liver ailments and to ensure a healthy liver. It is regarded the best remedy for heavy drinkers. With the increasing research done on its benefits, Yamato Clam has gained much recognition as a health-enhancing tonic.

The nutritional value of the Yamato Clam surpasses any other, and has more profound liver-enhancing benefits. In fact, the Yamato Clam is now regarded as one of the best nutritional supplements to maintain liver health.

The Yamato Clam is packed with the perfect balance of essential amino acids which are very important to support liver’s detoxification process; B vitamins and organic minerals, including zinc and calcium, essential to support healthy liver function; trace minerals; energy-boosting glycogen, and DHA.

Medical Research

•1980 Japanese Professor did a research of liver disease patients receiving treatment using clam extracts. Results showed 82% of 853 personnel have recovered and improved.
•1982 Japanese Medical Team from University did an experiment showed proven results that clam can control fatty liver, prevent elevation of GOT & GPT and reduce the death of liver cells.
•1994 University Professor Gong had done a 6 years research on clam and discovered the protein in clam extracts has the ability to prevent cancer, particularly liver cancer.
•1998 Cholesterol & Heart Specialist Professor Lim discovered the clam can increase in HDL (good cholesterol) and reduce in LDL (bad cholestorl), thus prevent the hardening of vessels, heart and blood circulation disease.
•1999 Professor Lim confirmed clam can reduce the AST & ALT of liver.
•2003 University of Tzu Chi discovered clam is good not only to the liver but also for the health of heart, pancreas and kidney.

How much you know about the liver?
The liver is the largest gland and solid organ in the body, weighing some 1.8 kg in a men and 1.3 kg in women. The liver is dark reddish brown in colour. It holds approximately one pint or 0.57 litres of the total blood supply at any given moment. About 60 per cent of the liver is made up of liver cells (hepatocytes) and each of these has an average lifespan of 150 days. The liver receives its blood supply via the hepatic artery and portal vein which transports nutrients from the intestine.

The liver is a complex chemical factory that works 24 hours a day. Virtually all the blood returning from the intestinal tract to the heart passes through the liver. This means everything we swallow that is absorbed into the bloodstream passes through the liver.

The liver functions can be divided into four basic categories:

1.Regulation, synthesis and secretion of glucose, proteins, biles and lipids.
2.Storage of glucose in the form of glycogen, fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K), vitamins B6 and B12 and minerals such as copper and iron. However, excessive accumulation of certain substances can be harmful.
3.Purification, transformation and clearance of harmful substances from the blood by breaking them down into less harmful compounds. It also converts most hormones and drugs to less active products.
4.Fighting infections, particularly infections arising in the bowel.
However, unhealthy eating habits in addition to the contaminated living condition have put on much pressure to the liver and resulted in the development of several liver diseases. Some of the common liver diseases include viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, cancer of the liver, etc.

The Essence of Yamato Clam
Yamato Clam has gained its reputation for maintaining health due to its wide range of nutrients needed for the body:

Protein and amino acid
Proteins are made up of sequence of amino acids. They are the primary component of numerous body tissues. Protein is necessary to maintain general wellbeing for the growing children, youths, adults and seniors.

Glycogen
The glycogen stored in the liver can be made accessible to other organs. It provides energy for the body to maintain vitality.

Calcium
We need Calcium to maintain healthy bone and teeth throughout the life. Sufficient amount of Calcium intake is needed for normal density of bones which may reduce the chances for osteoporosis. Yamato Clam supplies sufficient amount of Calcium for your body needs.

5 Things You Need to Know About the Health Benefits of Clams
Post a comment | Print This Article has been added to your favorites. View your profile
1. More Iron than Beef
Clams are surprisingly high in iron. So high, in fact, that t-bone steaks and beef liver don't compare. A three-ounce serving of cooked clams, or about nine small clams, has about 24 milligrams of iron. That's more iron than recommended each day for most adults (iron RDA is 18 milligrams per day for pre-menopausal women and eight milligrams per day for adult men and post-menopausal women.) Some individuals, especially women, have a difficult time getting enough iron each day, resulting in anemia if not treated. If you suffer from low iron, eating clams occasionally will help maintain your iron stores. On the other hand, some individuals absorb too much iron or get too much iron from the foods they eat. For these people, eating clams often may be a problem. The minerals in clams doesn't stop with iron. Clams are a good source of phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium, as well.

2. Good Marks on Contaminants
Fish and seafood, although generally healthy to eat, are also potentially high in toxic contaminants. According to the Environmental Defense Fund's Seafood Selector, most clams have low levels of the contaminants found in some other fish and seafood species. If you're concerned about effects on the environment, softshell clams are rated "best" and wild clams are rated "OK" in terms of the environmental impact of clam production or fishing. Contaminants in seafood are closely linked to specific pollution and industrial activity near water where clams are harvested. To be sure of the safety of local clams, check with local authorities.

3. Heart-Healthy Fats
Clams contain about 140 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids per 100 grams (about 3 1/2 ounces.) How does that compare with recommendations? There are no formal dietary recommendations for omega-3 intake, but studies have shown that 250 to 500 milligrams per day may be useful in achieving optimal heart health. If you are getting tired of eating oily fish each week to meet recommendations, add clams to your recipe rotation a few times a month.

4. Better Than Chicken?
Clams qualify as a lean protein at more than 20 grams of protein and less than two grams of fat in a three-ounce serving. Clams have more protein than oysters and scallops, but roughly the same protein and fat content as chicken. There are major differences, however, in the nutrient profile of clams and chicken. Clams contain significantly more of most vitamins and minerals than chicken. It makes nutritional sense to choose clam chowder over cream of chicken soup!

5. What About Cholesterol?
Clams contain fair amounts of cholesterol. There is nothing special about the cholesterol found in seafood like clams and shrimp. The reason seafood isn't prohibited for people with high cholesterol has more to do with the low fat and saturated-fat content of seafood like clams. Eating a low saturated-fat diet is much more important in maintaining healthy blood cholesterol than eating a low-cholesterol diet.

By Kristie Leong MD on October 28th, 2009 The Amazing Health Benefits of Clams
Heading for a clam bake? Here’s why you may want to have an extra serving of this healthy mollusk. Discover the many health benefits of clams.

Some people swear by them, but not everyone can appreciate the salty, chewy texture of a fresh baked clam. An integral ingredient in New England Clam Chowder, this edible mollusk can also be enjoyed steamed, baked, sauted, poached, or fried up in a pan. Whether or not you like their taste, they have some pretty impressive credentials when it comes to health and nutrition. What are the health benefits of clams?

They’re Low in Fat
Three ounces of cooked clams is a dieter’s delight with only 126 calories and 2 grams of fat. Even better is the fact that they’re high in omega-3 fatty acids which are so important for a healthy heart. Despite the fact that clams have cholesterol, there’s only 57 milligrams in a three ounce serving. With it’s low fat content, it’s still a heart healthy choice; but be sure if you turn it into clam chowder that you go light on the butter and cream!

They’re High in Protein
Why not take a break from eating red meat and enjoy this lean protein source for a change? Each three ounce serving of clams has a whopping 22 grams of protein with very few calories and little fat. If you’re an athlete with high protein requirements, clams offer an excellent protein source for building lean body mass.

They’re Rich in Iron
Read more in Nutrition
« Two Fats That are Healthy for Your HeartThe Side Effects of Iron Supplements »If you’re iron deficient, clams are a better choice than beef. One three ounce serving of clams has 24 mg. of iron – more than what’s found in beef liver or steak. Of course, too much iron can be a problem particularly if you’re a male or post-menopausal women so don’t overindulge on them if you have normal iron levels. Clams are also good sources of selenium, zinc, and copper.

Vitamin Content
Clams are an exceptional source of vitamin B12, a vitamin that’s important for a healthy nervous system. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause an array of problems including Alzheimer’s like symptoms, problems with balance, loss of feeling in the hands and feet, depression, and anxiety. Clams are an excellent way to help keep the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves working properly by supplying them with the B12 they need. Clams are also a good source of vitamin C which is important for strong connective tissue and a healthy immune system.

A Word of Warning
Clams are nutritious, but eating raw clams is risky. Raw clams can be contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio vulnificus which can cause serious illness in people with underlying medical problems. Play it safe and enjoy your clams cooked.

The Mangosteen, if
scientific research is any
indication, is perhaps
the most important fruit
on earth.

The Mangsoteen contains
several classes of
phytonutrient antioxidants and is the only place in nature to contain a broad spectrum of a new class of phytonutrients called Xanthones.
The potent effects on human health of the Mangosteen have been observed for centuries in Southeast Asia, and have been scientifically documented. Here is a summary of the benefits of the Mangosteen:

Mangosteen:
"I am now convinced that mangosteen will, without a doubt, be the most medically successful food supplement ever."

~ J. Frederic Templeman, M.D.
"Mangosteen The X-Factor"

Dr. Templeman is a practicing primary care physician, board-certified in both the US and Canada, who has never before endorsed a food supplement. But after testing a Mangosteen derived Juice on his patients, Dr. Templeman went on to publish MANGOSTEEN, THE X FACTOR.

His booklet summarized both the observations of the native healers and peoples of Southeast Asia, and the scientific research that now documents the potent effects of this amazing fruit.

As Dr. Templeman states in the beginning of his book, what is impressive about these studies is that all the scientific studies on Mangosteen are independent. The studies have no commercial bias. In addition, while potent effects are noted with profound implications for human health, no safety or toxicity issues have been noted.

Mangosteen -- What is it?

The Mangosteen is tangerine-sized and is deep purple in color on the outside, with a bright white pulp in the inside. Prized because of its excellent flavor, in Asia it is called the "Queen of Fruits," and, in the French Caribbean, the "Food of the Gods."

Used for centuries throughout the lands in which it grows, recent scientific studies have revealed an incredible scope of potent human health benefits leading many to believe that Mangosteen will be the most important fruit on earth.

Mangosteen: The X Factor
The following is a summary of the X Factor by Dr. Templeman

Immune System
Protects against pathogens, sepsis, influenza, pneumonia, tuberculosis, AIDS, and diverticulosis. Anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal. Laboratory demonstrated to interfere with HIV protease, which keeps the virus immature and incapable of infections. Thai study demonstrated effectiveness against staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Polysaccharides in the rind stimulate phagocytic immune cells (PMNs and monocytes). Effective against salmonella, typhus and tuberculosis bacteria.

Asian healers have used Mangosteen for centuries for syphilis, malaria, and amebic dysentery. In South America, it is used for intestinal worm infestations.

Anti-Tumor Properties

Catechins in Mangosteen: Prevent formation of carcinogenic compounds by blocking co-carcinogens. Turn up body's natural detoxification defenses. Suppress cancer promotion or growth.

Gastro-Intestinal System
Dysentery, GI pathogens, diverticulosis, histamine and serotonin blocking capacity. Reduces excess stomach acid. Anti-allergic effect. Anti-stomach ulcer.

Respiratory System
Mangosteen study in September 2002 reported that it is an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic agent. Relevant for asthma. Xanthoses modulate IGE, antibody class involved in allergic reactions. Mangosteen can accomplish what we now use several drugs to do. Ideal product to use daily to protect our respiratory systems integrity

The Central Nervous System
Dr. Nakahatas research with glial cells (central nervous systems cells) suggest that Mangosteen could produce a therapeutic effect in both treatment and prevention of Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease.

Skin
Mangosteen used for centuries to treat eczema, dermatitis, wounds, ringworm, acne, impetigo, and growth disorders of dermis (psoriasis or seborrhea) skin cancer and sun damage.

Folk Medicine Remedies (India, China, Malaysia, Philippines, etc.)

Antimicrobial/anti-inflammatory powers. Treating eczematous and hyperkeratotic skin conditions. In Caribbean, tonic for fatigue and malaise. Controlling fever.

Systemic Effects

Helps with fatigue, low energy. Used on persons with chronic fatigue and illness. From Dr. James Duke, perhaps Americas foremost ethnobotanist. Retired in 1995. He worked for the USDA and University of Maryland. Prolific writer and created a phytochemical and ethnobotanical database.

Mangosteen is listed with 138 separate benefits. The following are the major benefits:

Half a century ago, scientists have substantiated through extensive researches and experiments that ageing is caused by cellular free radical damages and these damages are the main culprit of body deterioration as well as cancers, cirrhosis, heart diseases, stroke and many other life-threatening diseases!

Free radicals are atoms or group of atoms with unpaired electrons, thus they are prone to seize electrons from other substances to become stable. Therefore, free radicals are strongly reactive and they can lead to a chain of damaging reactions between the cells, resulting in cellular damages and genetic mutations, subsequently inducing the development of serious diseases. This process is called “oxidation”, just like a cut apple will turn brown from oxidation when being left aside. Moreover, free radicals can form lipofuscin (also known as age pigment) which will accelerate the premature ageing process of brain cells, neurons, cardiac muscles, skeletal muscles, liver, skin and other body tissues.

In our everyday life, there are many external influences that can increase the amount of free radicals in our body, such as air pollution, UV rays, smoking, alcohol addiction, oily or burnt foods and prolonged use of mobile phone. Therefore, we have to consume enough antioxidants to neutralize the free radicals in our body to maintain a youthful and healthy appearance.

28 Types of Miracle Fruit Juices from the Heaven
Developed through numerous clinical trials, Mangosteen Plus is made from 28 types of natural fruit extracts with powerful antioxidant effects that can provide extraordinary beauty and health-enhancing effects as well as a sweet and smooth flavor. Thus, it is said to be a perfect blend of taste and nutritious essences and even a major breakthrough of science.

•Eliminates and neutralizes free radicals to prevent and improve all chronic diseases.
•Suppresses the production of lipofuscin (also known as age pigment) to delay skin ageing.
•Inhibits cell mutations and the growth of cancer cells.
•Increases the amount of lymphatic cells to enhance immunity.
•Anti-allergy, anti-virus, anti-bacteria, anti-fungi, anti-inflammation and pain-relieving.
•Inhibits thrombosis, improves blood circulation and maintains healthy cardiovascular system.
•Controls blood sugar to prevent the complications of diabetes.
•Builds strong bones and improves joint flexibility.
•Maintains healthy eyesight, liver and kidneys.
•Promotes cell repairs and wound healing.
•Stimulates bowel movements to excrete accumulated toxins.
•Burns excessive body fat and increases satiety for reducing body weight.
•Neutralizes acidic body constitution, reduces heat and detoxifying.
•Promotes food digestion and nutrient absorption while reducing cholesterol.
•Boosts energy and revitalizes the body.
•Maintains normal hormone secretions, provides a calming effect and relieves stresses.
The main active ingredient of Mangosteen Plus – mangosteen fruit contains detoxifying and cooling effects and it has been used as traditional medicine around the world as early as a few centuries ago. The health benefits of mangosteen are attributed to its powerful antioxidant properties – xanthones that found in its pulps, pericarp and seeds with the highest content found in pericarp. Therefore, the mangosteen extract in Mangosteen Plus is specifically extracted from the whole mangosteen fruit, including its pericarp, thus its effectiveness is at least 10 times higher than other mangosteen supplements that extracted from the pulps alone. Studies have shown that Xanthones can help to maintain intestinal health, enhance immunity and inhibit free radicals as well as promote healthy respiratory system, cardiovascular system, joints and cartilages.

Xanthone: Planar-six carbon molecules in a conjugated ring system consisting of a backbone molecule and various chemical groups attached to it. This unique backbone along with type and position of the attached chemical groups define specific functionalities of xanthones.

Scientists have found up to 200 types of xanthones that are beneficial to human health. While a plant is rarely containing more than 8 types of xanthones, Mangosteen fruit has been found to contain more than 70 types of xanthones. Hence, it has been called “The King of Xanthones”! Below are some of the important xanthones that have been found in the mangosteen fruit:

Until now, there are more than 30 years of scientific evidences available to support its effectiveness:

“The latex of Mangosteen consists of more than 75 types of xanthones which have strong antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal activities.”
Natural Product Research. 2005 Apr; 19(3):239-43.

“Six xanthones display growth inhibitory effects on the cell growth inhibition of human leukemia cell line HL60.”
Journal of Natural Products. 2003 Aug; 66(8): 1124-7.

“Gamma mangostin can directly inhibit the activity of COX.”
Biochemical Pharmacology. 2002 Jan 1; 63(1):73-9.

“Alpha mangostin and Gamma mangostin may become novel types of lead compounds for histamine and serotonin receptor antagonists.”
Nippon Yakurigaku Zassi. 1997 Oct; 110 Suppl 1:153P-158P.

“Polysaccharides in the mangosteen extract can stimulate phagocytic cells and kill intracellular bacteria.”
Journal of The Medical Association of Thailand. 1997 Sept; 80 Suppl 1: S149-54.

“Mangostin acts as a free radical scavenger to protect the LDL from oxidative damage in vitro system. ”
Free Radical Research.1995 Aug; 23(2):175-84.
